A Little Bit about Kona Mike
"Kona
Mike" Anthony epitomizes the California surfer dude--born
in SoCal on the first day of summer 1964 and raised in Surf
City USA--Huntington Beach, CA--where he took up surfing at
16. The word "ocean" is tattooed in Chinese on his right ankle.
Or maybe it's a birth mark.
Throughout his youth and adulthood Kona Mike
has surfed the best breaks up and down the West Coast and
Baja, from Ventura to Cabo and everywhere in between: Zippers
and Cerritos, K38 and Bus Stops in Baja; O.B. in San Diego;
Trestles, Salt Creek, Bolsa Chica and the Newport Jetties
in O.C.; Seal Beach and Oxnard in L.A. In Hawaii, Kona Mike
has charged the waves of Hanalei Bay and Waikiki and gotten
barreled off of Diamond Head. On any given day Kona Mike can
be found tearing it up at Kahalu'u, Lymans, Mahi Ula's or
Pine Trees.
Though his favorite board is his 6'8" Stewart
Solution given to him as a gift from Bill Stewart, his quiver
also includes 9'0" and 9'1" long boards, a 7'5" big wave gun,
6'4" and 6'8" short boards, a 6'1" fish as well as an 8' foamy…just
for fun.
